Greenhand Banquet

The Warsaw FFA is holding the Greenhand Induction Ceremony on February 17, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. It is very important that all Greenhands attend. We would like the Greenhands to be here at 6:20 p.m., IN OFFICIAL DRESS. It will be held in the Agriculture Room, Y-189. There will be a special guest attending. Big Reminder Members!

REMINDER! Sign up to bring supplies for the Staff Appreciation Breakfast and bring your money for bowling on February 20th. It is $7 per person. For the Staff Appreciation Breakfast, we still need sausage, bacon, gallons of orange juice, gallons of milk, and muffins.

It's February - The Month of National FFA Week!

National FFA Week is quickly approaching! This is one of the most exciting weeks for FFA chapters across the country. We hope to see all of our members participate in all of the wonderful activities we have planned this year!
Staff Appreciation Breakfast: Our Staff Appreciation Breakfast is one of our biggest chapter activities! It will be taking place on Friday, February 25th. FFA Officers and Seniors are to arrive at the high school at 5:45a.m. and all other members at 6:15a.m. During the breakfast, FFA members will be cooking and serving breakfast to over 100 staff members at WCHS. It is a way for us to show our appreciation for all they do. In order to be properly prepared for the breakfast, we ask that every member bring in at least 2 items. There is a sign-up sheet in the Ag. Department of items that need to be brought in. Also, it is MANDATORY that FFA members wear Official Dress to the breakfast!! After breakfast has been served to the staff, members will have the opportunity to sit down and eat breakfast together before they are dismissed to their first period class. We hope to see you there!
Family Bowling: On Sunday, February 20th, we will be having our family bowling day. This will be taking place at Northside Lanes (The Bowling Alley on SR 15) from 1-3:00p.m. We are still looking into details for pricing. We expect it to be similar to last year, which was $5.00 per person. This money must be turned in ahead of time! Please pay attention to announcements and bulletin boards for specific details. Since this is a family bowling day, we ask that you only bring family members! Aunts, Uncles, Grandma, Grandpa, Brother, Sister, Mom, Dad, but please, no friends or "significant others".
Luncheons: On Tuesday the 22nd and Thursday the 24th, we will be having a carry-in luncheon in the Ag. Department. No matter what lunch you have, you are welcome to come down to the Ag. Department for lunch and corn-hole. Please pay attention to bulletin boards and announcements for further information!
FFA Meeting: Our next FFA meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, February 23rd during FFA Week. The chapter will be providing dinner at 5:15p.m. In addition, there will also be a corn-hole tournament! Please plan on attending this meeting! Every meeting, we bring up important information that you may miss otherwise. We hope to see you there!
Theme Days: This year our themed days are as follows:
Tuesday, 22nd: College Sweatshirt/T-Shirt Day
Wednesday, 23rd: Favorite Ag. Brand Day
Thursday, 24th: FFA Shirt Day
Friday, 25th: Official Dress
If you have any questions regarding National FFA Week, please ask one of the advisors or officers!

Leadership Contests are Calling!

It is time to begin preparing for District Leadership Contest, taking place on Friday, March 11th. We are scheduled to have our leadership call-out this Wednesday, however, with the weather the way it currently is, we may not even have school! If you are interested in doing a leadership contest, you must attend this call-out in. There are only so many contests in which members can compete!
Throughout this week, we have had information over each of the contests available to members. If you have not had the opportunity to pick of the information, visit this link below. All of the contests highlighted in yellow are leadership contests.
Competing in a leadership contest is a great way for members to gain better public speaking skills, self-confidence, and - of course, leadership qualities. Leadership contests are much different than CDEs in the sense that they are not a team contest. Whether it's giving a demonstration, speech, or even competing in quiz bowl, you must be self motivated in order to succeed. Leadership Contests are such a great opportunity for members! If you are interested in competing, please make arrangements to attend the call-out!

Warsaw FFA Dominates at State Dairy Foods Contest

On Saturday, January 29th, 16 FFA members traveled to Purdue University to compete at the Indiana FFA State Dairy Foods Contest. The Warsaw FFA Chapter came out very successful! Our Gold team consisting of Lauryn Steffe, Maryssa Hawley, Kyle Quick and Rheann Weaver placed 1st in the state. They will now have the opportunity to compete in the National Dairy Foods Contest at National Convention this coming October. Our Silver team consisting of Lindsey O'Hara, Madison Dobbins, Bryce Owens, and Mikalea Conley placed 2nd in the state with only being 1 point away from 1st! Placing 7th in the state was our "Young Cheese" team with Mitchell Hall, Bryce Sands, Ashley Bryer, and Mary Bonheimer.
For our individual results, we had three members place in the Top 10. They were as follows:
Lauryn Steffe - 1st place
Lindsey O'Hara - 2nd place
Madison Dobbins - 9th place
Congratulations to our top individuals!
Other Warsaw FFA participants were Morgan Ancil and Derrick Carelson.
In the Junior division, Danielle Olds placed 7th in the state. Andrea Hartman also competed on Saturday.
We are very proud of the performance from our members! Congratulations.
Dairy Foods is a Career Development Event that focuses on getting members more familiar about dairy food products. In this contest, members learn how to identify popular types of cheese based on appearance, texture, taste, and smell. They also learn how to identify non-dairy products from real dairy products, look for defects in milk, and detect problems with milker unit parts. In addition, members take a test that requires knowledge of all aspects of the dairy industry.
